eVic Dual VTC w/Ultimo Tank

We have all watched the Joyetech eVic go through several major changes this year alone. It’s humble beginnings, as a 20W tubed-mod, was the most elegant, sleek and sexy mod to come from Joyetech at the time of its release. Its sophisticated software was ahead of the curve, and when used with several plus-ohm clearomizers and carto-tanks, the eVic was all about satisfaction. The eVic Dual VTC returns some of its former glory, just in time.

After the initial eVic launch Empi select tens unit user manual pdf. , (2014) the mod went into a lull period, and sat as a backburner device for Joyetech until a radical redesign turned into a box mod. From there, it went on to become the eVic VT and VT Mini, then a box mod with temperature control, theeVic VTCand VTC Mini, with more power, with a tank and without, and so on down the line. As the August 8th 2016 date approached Joyetech released several different eVics, from the eVic Basic, the eVic AIO, and the much better eVicVTwo and VTwo Mini.

Now, post-August 8th, Joyetech unleashes another major redesign for its eVic flagship. And man, what a nifty redesign it is.

Joyetech eVic VTC Dual with ULTIMO Starter Kit comes with eVic VTC “Dual Mod” and it’s less than stellar ULTIMO Atomizer. The mod features a replaceable battery compartment, and the latest evolution of its variable temperature control system.

The ULTIMO is a top fill tank, with adjustable airflow control. The ULTIMO delivers good flavor and an abundance of vapor, but lacks much heat dissipation, causing the tank to become way too hot to use at modest wattage settings for sub-ohm vaping. For that reason, Spinfuel dismissed the ULTIMO as a serious contender for sub-ohm users.

eVic Dual VTC

The eVic Dual VTC uses an RTC display with its now ubiquitous clockscreen protection software. It supports RTC/ VW/ VT/ Bypass/ and TCR modes. No that surprising, the eVic Dual can reach 75W and 150W max output power when using one or two 18650 batteries. I say ‘not that surprising’ because Joyetech is always pushing its innovations through the eVic line before reaching down to the other box mods. The method for using one or two batteries is explained below.

Spinfuel has already reviewed Joyetech’s ULTIMO tank, and had it not produced a whole lot of heat that couldn’t be dissipated through the metal, glass, or drip tip, it might have received a much better grade then it did. If the ULTIMO has changed since our review, I can Chevrolet colorado repair manual. ’t see it. The same pluses and minuses that befall the ULTIMO a couple months back are still present in the Starter Kit. For a detailed look at the ULTIMO, read our review.

Real World Report – eVic Dual VTC

For vapers that truly enjoy using temperature control, Joyetech’s TC capabilities are first rate. The standard TC wires are compatible of course, including Ni200, Titanium, and Stainless Steel. Joyetech has set up the temperature coefficients to work well with SS316, a high-quality stainless steel that requires some adjustment in the coefficients to get just right. If you are someone that enjoys using these various wires than you’ll be plenty satisfied with the results of Joyetech’s calculations. I spent some time with nickel and stainless steel wire in TC mode and there isn’t anything new here. If you like TC, you’ll like Joyetech’s execution of it. Little else needs to be said.

For this review I used the ULTIMO for a little while, but the heat was just too much. The rest of the time I used various tanks, including the SMOK Minos, the TFV8 Baby Beast, Freemax Starre PURE, Crown 2 from Uwell, and the Herakles Honor and Pro tanks. These tanks allowed me to vape with ceramic, stainless steel and Kanthal.

One or Two Batteries?

Joyetech did a good job constructing the eVic’s ability to utilize one or two batteries. Included in the box is a detachable, single-18650 battery compartment. By releasing the dual battery compartment (on by default) and replacing it with a smaller, single battery compartment you’ll take it down to the size of the eVic Mini. It also kinda reminds me of early 2015 Innokin Disrupter and Innokincell mod kits.

I can see a few conditions where this single/dual battery feature might come in handy, but for me, if I can handle the size of the eVic with two batteries, and I can, I don’t see any reason not to. With two 18650 batteries the unit feels solid, ready to rumble, and maxes out at 150W.

The quality of the Joyetech eVic Dual VTC is up there with any other150W device. Many advanced vapers consider the eVic to be a consumer level box mod, and in many ways it is, but the eVic Dual, sporting both 18650 batteries and Joyetech electronics and software, the device is plenty good enough for even the most advanced vaping.

There is little tolerance to be had in the construction of the mod. Tight corners, a zero-rattle battery chamber, and despite being detachable, the battery compartment and the eVic front side fit together seamlessly. If you didn’t know that the battery compartment came off, you wouldn’t think it did.

The front side of the eVic Dual VTC is much the same as the eVic VTwo Mini, though the overall size is significantly larger than the standard eVic VTwo when using the dual battery compartment. The fire button is indented, as are both the plus and minus buttons.

The micro USB is placed at the bottom of the front side of the device. The bright, easy to read, horizontally oriented OLED display carries over from earlier eVics. When you use the dual battery compartment the display will show two battery icons so you can keep an eye on how both batteries are draining, and when the single battery compartment is used, the right battery icon remains dark.

The width of the eVic Dual VTC is 23.5mm, making 22mm tanks and RDA’s fit well. Using the SMOK Minos and TFV8’s the tanks have a bit of overhang, but it’s nothing to get upset about. Certainly wider RDA’s isn’t an ideal choice though.

When it comes to resistance levels, the eVic Dual VTC can track all the way down to 0.05Ω in TC and TCR mode, while the Bypass mode, and Power mode can handle resistance down to 0.1Ω. With specs like this there wasn’t a single sub-ohm or RDA that didn’t perform well.

The chassis features a matte paint finish, unlike other eVics of the past. The colors are deep, luscious, and I have no concerns about the longevity of the finish.

My girlfriend prefers to use the eVic as a single battery unit, whereas I prefer the dual battery setup. Both ways handle nicely, but the heft of the dual batteries feel better to me, and I like to have plenty of power on hand for low resistance, high performance RDA’s and sub-ohm tanks.

From what I understand, the eVic Dual VTC kit (with the ULTIMO) will sell for about $50, which is a good value if you like the ULTIMO tank. By the itself, we should expect about $15 less, or right around $35. Considering what comes with the eVic Dual, the value is certainly there.

The device will be available in Black, Burgundy, Blue, Orange and White. I received both the Burgundy for review. The ULTIMO tank is stainless steel, but these are sample kits we received, so I expect the tanks to be color coordinated by the time its released, or certainly a black version for some of the colors.

While I don’t have plans to drop the other mods and tanks I use on a daily basis, I quite like the eVic Dual VTC box mod. It fits my hands well, and I’ve always liked the eVic display and the horizontal presentation of the information.

Since we’ve already reviewed the ULTIMO tank, my grade below is for the eVic Dual VTC box mod by itself. If you’re happy with your present tanks or RDA’s I’d buy the mod rather than the Starter Kit, and until Joyetech can make the ULTIMO heat resistant I just can’t recommend it for sub-ohm use.

Grade: A (mod only)

A solid addition to the eVic line. The eVic Dual gives back the respect the eVic deserves. The ability to be used as a standard size 150W box mod, or a 75W box mod mini is both innovative and clever. A much needed shot in the arm for Joyetech, a company that appeared to be bastardizing the eVic reputation with the latest offerings.”
